The Start

I have decided to write a blog my story.  Although I know nothing about setting up a blog I will have to learn along the way.

My aim is that if I can help someone who may be grappling with their past, I would truly be grateful and achieved my goal.

My story is not unique thousands of children have suffered childhood domestic violence I call myself a survivor I will not be a victim at the same time I was also subject to childhood abuse. For many years I had no recollection of my childhood I believe it was some form of post-traumatic stress.

I also at some point would like to write my experiences with mental health issues resulting from such trauma that will be down the track.

It has taken me years and lots of therapy to even get to the stage of writing this down. I hid behind fear, embarrassment and a lack of memory but what happened was real.

I find it fascinating when I talk to my siblings regarding our experiences and their stories can be different every one’s perception is altered by their own experiences the thing I have fond the most is that the same event has the same underlining current violence, poverty, emotional abuse and total dysfunction of a family.

The brain is amazing organ the way it stores information regarding memory and can access that information on merely a fleeting thought a photo, intuition that makes no sense a feeling of being somewhere before, but you cannot label it.

Other people’s memories can raise recollections that cannot be labelled, for me it was the birth of my first child. It was like a flood gate had happened I truly could not understand it.

So, what I say in this blog may be a cross between memories and feelings.

Am I ripping of the band aid I prefer to say I am shedding my skin like a snake.

I was born in Port August South Australia in the sixties, a time in Australia where values, preconceptions and conservative views were being questioned society was changing.

Parts of the town are very beautiful nestle between desert, water and the iconic flinders rangers seeing all the paddocks in flower in spring. The shimming of the water from Spencer Gulf and the wonderful sunsets reflecting the redness of the soil.

With the flinders ranges as a background the area was surrounded with amazing natural beauty.
